Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is thought to be one of the world’s most significant archaeological discoveries in recent history, largely because of the amount of knowledge it has revealed about Inca civilization. This "Lost City of the Incas" is located on the eastern slopes of the Andes mountains, near the low-lying Amazon basin.
