Romania is in southeastern Europe, on the western shores of the Black Sea. The capital city is Bucharest. The country is known for the forests of Transylvania and Carpathian Mountains.

Romania was occupied by Soviet troops in 1944 and was under communist rule from 1948 until 1989, when Nicolae Ceaucescu was overthrown. The country joined NATO in 2004 and became a member of the European Union in 2007, making it easier for westerners to travel to and experience this beautiful country. Our journey took us along the Danube River, which borders Romania and Serbia.
