The Sacred Valley, or Urubamba Valley, of Peru is located in the highlands of the Andean mountains. It is home to the Spanish colonial villages of Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Travelers looking for shopping opportunities will be happy with Pisac's large handicraft market. At the top of Pisac's hillside, travelers will find one of the Sacred Valley’s most important sites for Incan ruins. This hillside citadel is an example of an Incan platform and urban planning system, very advanced for its time. It includes Incan architecture, agricultural terraces, an Incan hydraulic system, a military fortress, as well as residential and religious structures.
