Photographs from The Hill neighborhood of St Louis. The boundaries are generally defined by Manchester on the north, Southwest Avenue and Columbia to the south, Kingshighway on the east, and Hampton on the west.

Why is it called The Hill? The neighborhood is the highest point in the city of St. Louis. Italian immigrants made The Hill their home in the late 1890s, when they came to the area to work the clay mines. Some of St. Louis’s most nationally known residents, including baseball heroes Joe Gargiola and Lawrence “Yogi” Berra have lived on The Hill. Today this neighborhood of manicured lawns and well-kept homes supports some of the finest Italian restaurants in the country and is very much alive with the flavor of its rich, cultural Italian heritage.
